Has anyone used the Maya Wrap with their newborn?

Miss Informed asked:
I'm looking for a baby sling that will be sturdy and safe, while allowing me to breastfeed discreetly. I've been looking at the Maya, and have a pattern for it. However, I'm afraid of the baby falling out. Are they pretty safe?
Can I have some more info about the Mobi wrap? I've never heard of it.

i LOVE the mobi wrap!
My friend has the Maya Wrap for her baby, and I have the MamaRoo. We both like the Mamaroo much better because it is very easy to get the baby into it, and the best part is that it goes over both shoulders for extra support. Its wonderful.
I have the Moby Wrap. It is a long piece of fabric, and you wrap it around yourself. The baby is very secure in it (I had my doubts, but it is very secure). It takes a little getting used to before you’re good at tying it, but after a few times, it is easy. It would be easy to make but is also cheap to buy ($35). It works for newborns and up to 45 pounds. It can be used as a front, back, side carrier and sling. I love mine. My baby naps in it all the time (we go to restaurants with him sleeping in it, works wonderfully). I tie it on before I get in the car and then I don’t have to worry about tying it when I get to where I am going. It is soft and comfortable. My baby did not like the sling position after he was a newborn, so the Moby is great because I could switch him to front carrier position. I recently was looking at the Mei Tai, that looks super nice, but pricey (since I already have the ergo and the moby, I think I have reached my baby carrier limit).
EDIT – for breastfeeding, look at the instructions for the Moby Wrap.
There is a lot of fabric so it would be easy to cover up. I have to admit I have never tried it despite the fact that I use the wrap every day I just nurse in the backseat of our car (we have tinted windows so I don’t worry about covering up that way.)
Personally I like the Maya Wrap over the Mobi. Your baby won’t fall out, I promise! It may take a few times for you to feel comfortable though. I don’t like the Mobi because of the learning curve of tying it and to me it’s inconvenient when getting in out of the car a lot if you’re running errands. I used my maya wrap and still do. My baby is 7 mos. I also use an Ergo since birth. It’s super easy, you just snap and go. It’s not painful if you use it for a while and you can nurse in it. You may feel a little put off because it’s a little pricey, but you won’t feel sorry about buying it. You can use it from newborn to toddler. Anyway… all of the wraps are safe though. Just have someone help you out the first couple of times and then you’ll feel more confident. As far as nursing goes, that’s something you just have to learn to do. Don’t be surprised if it’s not super easy the first few times. Just keep trying though and you’ll get it. You’re going to love wearing you’re baby. It’s such a wonderful feeling.
I use a Maya wrap too, as well as a Hotsling, which I absolutely love.
